Ladies and gents- I give to you… the BREEZEWAY! This is the area between the eat-in kitchen area and the space to the garage, laundry room and basement stairs. I can not tell you how excited I was when I saw this space because I knew instantly this could be my dream mudroom! Right now it was just a big hallway and pass through to other rooms, but it was just singing to me that it could be so much more.
I decided that this would need to be our very first project because it would address instantly one of our biggest needs while we wait to remodel the kitchen- STORAGE! With it’s close proximity to the kitchen, it could serve as our food pantry while we wait for ours to be built. I could not get this started fast enough because as soon as this was done, I was one step closer to order and organization. Yes, please!
Here is the mock up I made from Ikea of how I wanted to utilize the space. The tall cabinets are floor to ceiling and closer to the kitchen. The space under the upper cabinets are going to a feature wall with hooks for bags and coats. Beneath that will be a bench with storage baskets for each member of the family for shoes. The great thing about Ikea cabinets is that it is wall mounted so when we change the flooring eventually, everything can be easily moved and securely put back.
Here were some of my design inspirations:
Starting this new project totally got me excited all over again for choosing this house. I can not wait to transform this drab little useless space into the hub of family it was meant to be. I’ll post next on the steps I’ll need to take to bring us there, both for Stage One and Two.
